In this role, you'll work on complex electrical systems, perform hands-on troubleshooting and repairs, and help keep critical infrastructure running smoothly. You'll also assist with facility maintenance across other city buildings and help promote electrical safety through training and best practices. Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training + High school diploma or equivalent and + 4 years of experience in an industrial plant, performing journey-level work installing, maintaining and conducting repairs on industrial electrical systems. Licensing And Other Requirements + Journey-level Electrician license issued by the State of Idaho. + Valid state-issued driver's license. + Ability to obtain an Idaho Wastewater Treatment Class I License or Operator in Training (OIT) within six months of employment. + First Aid and CPR Certifications. Applicants must be able to pass: + City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation + Driving Record Check + Drug Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test. + This position is required to handle hazardous materials that if mishandled, place the general public at risk of serious injury. Essential Functions Performs journey-level electrical work on industrial and commercial machinery including: troubleshooting; conducting repairs; and installing and maintaining electrical systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), motor control cabinets, Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, generator backup systems, motors, panels, switchgear and related electrical components throughout wastewater facilities and other public works utilities. Performs maintenance on all electrical systems and equipment within the industrial wastewater treatment plant facilities and other utilities. Assists with preventive maintenance procedures on instrumentation equipment. Examines equipment to determine whether it requires repair or replacement. Assists in material and equipment selection for supply and inventory levels. Creates, updates and archives electrical prints and schematics. Participates in weekly safety meetings and training classes. Performs industrial, commercial and standard electrical installations, repairs and maintenance to other city-owned facilities and equipment outside public works utilities. Assists mechanics in maintaining and repairing wastewater valves, pumps and other process equipment and facilities. Leads and trains registered electrical apprentices on general assignments, proper electrical installations and safety procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Knowledge of: + reduced voltage starters, medium voltage (4,160 volts) and high voltage (34,500 volt) electrical equipment and systems, uninterrupted power supplies and systems, fire alarm systems, HVAC control circuits, phone systems and large generator backup systems, electrical installation requirements and automatic emergency transfer switches; the appropriate use of lock-out/tag-out safety procedures and relevant occupational hazards and standard safety precautions; appropriate use of programmable logic controllers; + variable-frequency motor drives; + National Electric Code, state and local requirements for the installation and maintenance of industrial-related electrical systems; and + computer usage, including related software. Ability to: + test instruments such as multimeters, power monitors, ammeters, meggers and line tracers; + act as a signing journey-level electrician for permits and inspections; + fully utilize, read, update and create complex electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, prints, plans and drawings; + accurately troubleshoot and repair complex motor controls and a large variety of critical electro-mechanical systems; + repair and replace defective parts in motors, generators, pumps, relays, switch gears, controllers, motor control centers, power monitors, HVAC controls, emergency and alarm systems and other electrical equipment and components; + carry out verbal and written instructions for assigned work and determine job requirements, repair sequence, parts acquisition and labor time estimates; + communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; and + perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation. Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record. Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training Associate's degree. Idaho Master Electrician license and 5 years of industrial plant or wastewater treatment plant electrical experience, performing journey-level work installing, maintaining and conducting repairs on industrial electrical systems and troubleshooting problems within industrial electrical systems. Functional knowledge of confined space procedures and rescue.
