SUMMARY

The Senior Mine Engineer will support the Technical Services Department in advancing the reactivation of a historic underground mining operation with over 140 years of legacy. Working within established procedures and in close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. The successful candidate will assist in providing technical input related to underground mine engineering, including mine design, scheduling, dewatering, and ventilation planning.

This role is instrumental in supporting the evaluation and planning efforts required to bring the mine back into production and will contribute to the preparation of engineering studies, project development plans, and operational readiness initiatives. A focus will be placed on applying sound engineering practices to safely and efficiently support the transition from care and maintenance to active operations, while preserving the integrity of the mine's historical infrastructure and aligning with modern standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Support the Technical Services team in bringing a historic underground mine back into production. Assist in the development and execution of mine planning, engineering design, and operational support tasks.

  • Assist in development design layout changes.
  • Assist survey department as needed.
  • Assist in developing ventilation, ground support, mine infrastructure, and underground development upgrade plans to support the reactivation of a 140-year-old underground mine.
  • Support the preparation and maintenance of short, mid, and long-range mine plans, incorporating key factors such as ventilation, stability, infrastructure requirements, and development schedules.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and documentation of Deswik scheduling protocols for consistent and efficient planning processes.
  • Assist in the development of a ventilation model of the Mine
  • Contribute to the optimization of mine design, sequencing, and scheduling to improve operational efficiency, profitability, and long-term sustainability.
  • Provide support in the Life of Mine (LOM) budgeting process by compiling data and working with operations and maintenance teams under the guidance of senior engineering staff.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and procurement teams to support efforts in ensuring equipment availability and operational readiness.
  • Aid in tracking operational costs, monitoring expenditures, and identifying potential cost-saving or process improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in geotechnical data collection and assessments to help evaluate ground stability and inform ground control strategies.
  • Assist in recommending and implementing measures to mitigate geotechnical risks based on collected data and senior engineer guidance.
  • Support the preparation of technical documentation, including mine plans, reports, and budget inputs for internal review and external stakeholders as directed.
  • Assist in maintaining QA/QC data and procedures related to mine design and planning.
  • Promote safe and environmentally responsible work practices at all times.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including MSHA and ATF, as well as internal company policies.
  • Exhibit professionalism and initiative in day-to-day responsibilities, including effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Support the Technical Services Manager with additional tasks as assigned in alignment with project and operational goals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May direct or lead the work of Consultants and/or Contractors and surveyors.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering or related field from an accredited four-year college or university; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience to be determined by management.
  • 4+ years of experience in progressive Mining Engineering, design, ventilation, and scheduling related areas.
  • Experience in narrow vein underground mining preferred.
  • Aging infrastructure update experience preferred.

TRAINING OR SPECIAL SKILLS
• Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point),
• Demonstrated proficiency in computer aided drafting, mine planning software, and ventilation modeling software (AutoCad, Deswik, VentSIM preferred)
• Knowledge of safety, health and environmental methods, rules, regulations and procedures, and related behavioral competencies.
• Knowledge of developing technology, preferably specific knowledge of the mineral/metals business.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
• Must complete MSHA 40-hour company provided training, or provide an MSHA 5000-23 documentation of completed training.
• Must pass pre-employment physical and drug test.

• Reaching with hands and arms, as well as climbing and balancing.
• Routine activities that require stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.

• Regularly lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds, with occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 125 pounds.
• Essential vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus as required for operational tasks.
