Environmental Education Supervisor

Description:

Under the direction of the Environmental Education Coordinator, the Environmental Education Environmental Education Supervisor will work with and supervise a team of seasonal field instructors to engage local youth in outdoor environmental education programs at Bogus Basin. Existing programs include Mountain Discovery Camp, SnowSchool, Guided Nature Programs, and Snowshoe Tours. During programing seasons the Environmental Education Supervisor will teach along side seasonal staff delivering place-based educational content to local youth.

The Environmental Education Supervisor with work with the Program Coordinator to further expand Bogus Basin's environmental education program. Successful applicants with have the desire to help foster the next generation of ecologists, land managers, environmental stewards and outdoor enthusiasts who will champion for access and preservation of open spaces and public lands.

This is a Year Round Full Time Position.

The EE Supervisor will work toward the following program goals:

1. Connect People to Land Through Outdoor Experiences
We aim to foster a personal and lasting connection to the natural world by offering hands-on, place-based education programs that encourage curiosity, observation, and stewardship.

2. Provide Accessible, Affordable, and Inclusive Environmental Education
We are committed to reducing barriers to participation in environmental education by keeping programs affordable, accessible to diverse communities, and welcoming to people of all ages and backgrounds. Our volunteers help us extend our reach and reflect the diversity of our community, making programs more personal, welcoming, and supported.

3. Empower the Next Generation of Environmental Stewards
Our core programming serves youth ages 9-14 through camps, field trips, and school partnerships, helping them build knowledge, confidence, and a love for the outdoors.

4. Expand Meaningful Learning Opportunities for Teens and Adults
We will broaden our impact by creating more teen and adult programs, including thematic tours, workshops, and immersive experiences that support lifelong learning.

5. Educate for Climate Action and Environmental Awareness
We integrate climate education into our programming to deepen understanding of local impacts, inspire hope through solutions, and encourage responsible decision-making.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Supervise the day to day operations and staff during summer camps, field trips, etc.
  • Communicate with teachers, schools, parents and partner organizations regarding booking of programs and field trips.
  • Thoughtfully create, plan and organize environmental education lessons and activities.
  • Lead and set up a variety of youth and adult based activities.
  • Lead and engage groups of youth and adults in a forest environment.
  • Teach on the trail and spend the day outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Assist with staff and volunteer management and training.
  • Positively redirect misbehavior when necessary.
  • Create a safe learning environment for program participants and staff.
  • Maintain a professional attitude toward all students, staff, supervisors, and other departments.
  • Create social media content to support program promotion and public environmental education.
  • Develop opportunities for teen and adult program development.
  • Provide constructive feedback to staff on job performance.
  • Help interview and hire seasonal staff.
  • Assist Program Coordinator in grant writing and reporting.

Non-Essential Functions of the Job
  • Perform other duties, as required.


Requirements

  • Passionate about Bogus Basin's Mission.
  • Degree in environmental education, ecology, biology, outdoor education, natural resources or closely related field (Preferred)
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Ability to work with people of all ages, especially children. Have a strong interest in nature education, and educating youth.
  • Need to be reliable, flexible, creative, enthusiastic, enjoy working with children, and have experience teaching.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under stressful situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Experience keeping detailed schedules and calendars.
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computers skills and comfortable using software including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Google Earth, etc.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to perform essential duties efficiently and accurately, with or without supervision, and without injury to incumbent or others.
  • Ability to stand, balance, walk and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to hike on uneven terrain for distances up to 5 miles with a backpack weighing up to 25lbs.
  • Ability to navigate mountainous terrain with or without GPS or maps.
  • Ability to occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Working Conditions
  • Outdoor environment; exposed to inclement weather and adverse conditions.
  • Working with groups of children daily.
  • Position begins September 2025
  • Typical schedule is M-F but may be required to work some evenings and weekends.
