As a Machinist Technician within Micron's Systems Integration Group (SIG), you will play a critical role in supporting the development of custom semiconductor test equipment. You will be responsible for programming and operating CNC machines, fabricating precision prototype parts, and assembling complex mechanical components. This hands-on role requires expertise in CAM software, machining a variety of materials, and collaborating closely with engineering and procurement teams to deliver high-quality, tight-tolerance components on schedule to meet project milestones.

Responsibilities:

  • Program CNC equipment using CAM software based on 3D models and technical drawings
  • Operate CNC mills, lathes, EDM wire, and fast hole burner machines
  • Machine a wide range of materials including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and engineered plastics
  • Design, fabricate, and assemble custom fixtures to support precision part production
  • Modify existing components to meet updated design revisions and functional improvements
  • Use precision measurement tools to verify that machined components meet engineering specifications and tolerances
  • Ensure all parts comply with quality standards and are delivered on time
  • Work through standard machining requests along with urgent high priority requests to enable testing, prototype, or customer builds
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on CNC equipment
  • Coordinate with factory support teams for preventative maintenance at scheduled service intervals
  • Schedule machine shop jobs based on priority to meet prototype/project deadlines
  • Source raw materials, coating vendors, and specialized tooling
  • Request vendor quotes for coatings/surface finishes to target timely delivery of treated parts
  • Coordinate shipping to and from coating vendors with the warehouse team
  • Work closely with engineering, NPI, lab, and technician teams to develop low-volume test fixtures
  • Provide part level design feedback and recommendations to the Mechanical Engineering team for machining optimization
  • Follow all established safety protocols and procedures
  • Identify and address safety or environmental risks proactively
  • Use appropriate safety equipment and resources to complete tasks safely and efficiently

Minimum qualifications:

  • 35 years of hands-on CNC machining experience after trade/vocational school completion, or, completion of an official apprenticeship program within 3 years, or, 510 years of hands-on CNC machining experience
  • Proficiency in CAM software
  • Strong understanding of machining principles and materials
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and 3D models
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Industrial experience

Preferred qualifications:

  • NIMS, MSSC, and AMT certifications
  • Experience with GibbsCAM
  • Prior semiconductor experience
