Overview Job Summary The System Administrator is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and optimization of the company's IBM i (AS/400) enterprise platform. This role ensures system availability, performance, security, and recoverability while supporting business operations across all environments. The administrator works closely with developers and infrastructure staff to deliver a stable and efficient IBM i environment. Typical Duties And Responsibilities Administer, maintain, and support IBM i systems, including configuration, upgrades, patching, and performance tuning Ensure reliable operation of the IBM I system, coordinating with business users and developers as needed Monitor system health and performance using built-in tools and third-party solutions; proactively identify and resolve issues Manage job scheduling, print queues, and system backups and recovery processes Implement and monitor security policies, user access controls, and audit logs to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements Coordinate software updates, PTFs, OS upgrades, and system testing in accordance with IT change management practices Document system architecture, procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting guides Collaborate with development teams on object promotion, library management, and system interfaces Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing; maintain high availability of critical systems Work various shifts as requested and perform on-call rotation which may include weekends, evenings, and holidays. Performs other projects and duties as needed and assigned. Requirements Education: Bachelors in a technology related discipline or demonstrated equivalent experience. Experience At least 4 years' experience administering IBM i systems Expertise in IBM Power Systems/IBM i, system upgrades, and hardware management. Proficiency in CL programming and SQL for automation and troubleshooting. Hands-on experience with backup/recovery tools (BRMS) and disaster recovery planning. Strong knowledge of system security, user access management, and audit procedures.
