The Director, FORTIFIED Field Services drives the growth of IBHS's FORTIFIED programs as an integral team member, fostering strategic partnerships, providing technical expertise in resilient construction, and enhancing community safety against severe weather through innovative stakeholder engagement.

As Director, FORTIFIED Field Services, you will drive program growth, forge strategic partnerships, and apply your construction and design expertise to enhance community resilience. This remote role is ideal for an entrepreneurial leader eager to shape the future of resilient construction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive program growth by engaging local, state, and national stakeholders to expand FORTIFIED designations, focusing on partnerships in the Atlantic Coast, Midwest, and Great Plains.
  • Provide technical leadership using expertise in residential and commercial construction to support FORTIFIED participants, and author technical documents.
  • Develop and deliver virtual and in-person training for auditors and stakeholders to uphold FORTIFIED standards.
  • Ensure quality and innovation through quality control checks, designation processing, and collaboration on research to advance FORTIFIED standards.
  • Represent IBHS as a technical expert at conferences, tradeshows, and internal/external meetings, advocating for resilient construction.
  • Engage with IBHS member companies to communicate the value of FORTIFIED programs, strengthening support and adoption.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in civil/structural or mechanical engineering (ABET-accredited).
  • Experience: 5+ years (10+ preferred) in residential/commercial construction with field experience in wind design, building codes, and materials (e.g., wood/concrete framing, roofing).
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in wind design calculations (ASCE 7-10/7-16), building code knowledge, and engineering analysis.
  • Business Skills: Proven ability to build partnerships and drive program growth.
  • Core Skills: Excellent communication, critical thinking, and conflict resolution; proficient in Microsoft Office; ability to learn proprietary software.
  • Mindset: Entrepreneurial, dependable, committed to quality and integrity.

Working conditions

Work is performed indoors, climate adjusted with mild noise and light fluctuations. Typical office environment where desks, rolling chairs, supply boxes, etc. may present an occasional hazard. Frequent travel is required.

Physical requirements

  • Visual Acuity – close visual acuity to perform an activity such as computer typing, extensive reading, preparing and analyzing reports, documenting minutes of a meeting.
  • Hearing - Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
