Director Of Wellness And Health Promotion

The Director of Wellness and Health Promotion provides strategic leadership for student-centered wellness initiatives within Boise State University's Department of Health Services. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating programs that support holistic student wellbeing and foster a campus environment where students thrive academically, socially, and personally. The director manages the Wellness Services budget and leads a dynamic team of professional staff, graduate assistants, and student employees, prioritizing their professional growth and development. In collaboration with colleagues across Health Services, the Division of Student Affairs, and other campus and community partners, the director helps cultivate an inclusive, evidence-based culture of wellness aligned with Boise State's mission. Additionally, the director drives student engagement through intentional programming, outreach, and integrated marketing. In partnership with the Executive Director of Health Services, the director ensures wellness efforts align with university priorities and contribute to student success and the overall health of the campus community.

Level Scope: Spends the majority of time (50% or more) achieving organizational objectives through the coordinated achievements of subordinate staff. Manages experienced professionals who exercise latitude and independence in assignments. Establishes departmental goals and objectives, functions with autonomy. Manages the accountability and stewardship of human, financial, and often physical resources in compliance with departmental and campus wide goals and objectives. Ensures subordinate supervisors and professionals adhere to defined internal controls with a focus on policy and strategy implementation. Manages systems and procedures to protect departmental assets and requires practical knowledge in leading and managing the execution of processes, projects and tactics within one area.

Essential Functions

Strategic Leadership and Program Oversight - 50% - Lead all operations and offerings within Wellness Services. Develop, implement, and evaluate programs addressing all dimensions of wellness. Oversee the Be Well initiative, including program development, budget management, service delivery, and assessment. Design and manage student wellness initiatives that promote education, personal growth, and positive public relations. Maintain and update operations and policy manuals for all assigned program areas. Supervise outreach and promotions staff in developing and executing a comprehensive marketing plan for all Health Services departments. Prepare and publish reports on wellness programs as directed by the Executive Director of Health Services or the VP of Student Affairs. Assess current and future wellness program needs through research and analysis of national and local trends in student development and service delivery. Coordinate wellness-related assessments, including the National College Health Assessment. Share wellness-related innovations and institutional best practices by participating in conferences and professional forums.

Team Management and Supervision - 25% - Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate professional, graduate, and student staff within Wellness Services. Maintain and revise employee manuals for all supervised roles. Conduct structured onboarding and ongoing staff development through meetings and leadership opportunities. Implement incentive programs to recognize exemplary performance. Provide clear direction, task delegation, and mentorship. Support professional growth by identifying educational and advancement opportunities. Mentor emerging professionals in the student wellness field and create a culture of continuous development. Provide collateral supervision to staff in other service areas as requested by the Executive Director.

Campus Collaboration and Communication - 20% - Foster partnerships with student and academic affairs to integrate wellness across the student experience. Collaborate with marketing to promote wellness programs via print, digital, and social media. Serve as the campus lead for student wellness, contributing to university planning and student development efforts. Represent Health Services on campus committees and initiatives to align with student support strategies. Assist with Health Services events and programs as needed. Advocate for wellness within institutional planning efforts and contribute to broader student success initiatives. Maintain active involvement in professional organizations to bring fresh insights and elevate campus wellness programs.

Professional - 5% - Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Proven leadership and supervisory experience, including managing full-time staff and strategic initiatives within complex organizations. In-depth knowledge of student development theory, wellness models, and national trends.
