This position provides coordination of the Idaho Department of Education (SDE) programs and initiatives to support school choice and community and parent engagement. This position is part of the Student Engagement and School Choice team and is responsible for resource support designed to increase parent awareness of Idaho educational choices and educational resources, support compliance and accountability efforts for schools of choice, and coordinate with various partners and stakeholder in leveraging school choice policies and practices. The role will require communication and outreach strategies, a broad educational perspective of Idaho's education system, and understanding school resources and opportunities (e.g. dual enrollment, open enrollment, charter schools and alternative schools). This individual will serve as a collaborator and a liaison for SDE initiatives with various stakeholder groups.

A successful candidate will have a background in supporting students, community collaboration, and prior experience related to educational needs of students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Engagement

· Provide guidance and support to schools of choice, who are underperforming benchmark metrics.

· Support efforts for school capacity building including helping schools evaluate their effectiveness and available resources.

· Support network and collaboration for various school leader roles.

· Support efforts for building school flexibility.

· Assess and provide analysis to address SDE initiatives related to chronic absenteeism.

· Maintain necessary contracts for SDE priorities related to school choice and parent engagement needs.

Parent Engagement

· Coordinate SDE efforts to support parents with education resources, laws and options.

· Design, implement and evaluate parent engagement initiatives aligned to the SDE priorities and goals.

· Source and support communication strategies and efforts to engage parents in educational resources.

· Collaborate directly with SDE and partner communication teams.

· Address constituent needs through phone, email or other communication channels.

· Foster partnerships with advocacy groups and other stakeholders.

School Choice

· Maintain communication channels and lists of charter, alternative, magnet and accredited private schools.

· Provide verification and approval for alternative school programs.

· Plan and facilitate capacity-building workshops for charter founding boards and other school leaders.

· Represent the SDE at various professional conference and training sessions.

· Provide and oversee charter school introductory content and materials for prospective founders or administrators.

· Identify and provide insights to school choice needs for executive level input.

· Support compliance and guidance efforts for program funds and pertinent state and federal laws.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in education or a related field is required.

· Minimum three years of experience in a related educational field

· Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a variety of public settings.

· Ability to speak to large audiences.

· Expertise in human relations skills, customer service and relationship-building.

· High level of attention to detail and the ability to manage projects from inception to completion.

· Ability to work independently, research and make informed decisions and recommendations.

· Ability to effectively manage simultaneous projects and priorities in a dynamic work environment.

· Can demonstrate leadership and work collaboratively in a team environment.

· Ability to travel throughout Idaho and to national meetings as required.

· Basic knowledge of budget and contract management.

Desired Qualifications:

· Experience working in an educational setting reflective of school choice (e.g. charter, magnet, private or alternative school setting).

· Experience with parent or constituent engagement efforts.

· Strong analytical skills, including the ability to work with large data sets.

· Knowledge about Idaho's current educational system.

· Contract management experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (with or without reasonable accommodation)

This position requires the ability to perform the following physical and job-related tasks:

· Operate standard office equipment such as a computer, telephone, copier, and scanner.

· Perform general administrative duties including typing, filing, answering phones, processing paperwork, and assembling office materials.

· Read, review, and process both printed and digital documents.

· Navigate websites and online systems; identify and respond to safety concerns; greet and assist visitors.

· Maintain focus and attention to detail for extended periods.

· Understand, communicate, and follow through on program support tasks and responsibilities.

· Approximately 90% of time is spent sitting at a desk or workstation, up to 4 hours at a time.

· Approximately 10% of time is spent standing, walking, bending, or kneeling.

· Occasionally lift items, typically weighing under 5 lbs., and occasionally up to 20 lbs.

TRAVEL REQUIRED:

This position requires approximately 20% travel time throughout the state and nationally for training and monitoring.

Vesting in the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI): All employees of the Idaho Department of Education are non-classified. They are appointed by the elected official and serve at the pleasure of the elected official. As such, employees working at a non-classified agency are considered vested in the PERSI retirement system after five (5) consecutive months of service, versus five (5) years of service at a classified agency.

Tuition Fee Waiver: All Idaho Department of Education employees in permanent full-time positions may register for instructional courses during any academic period, at any participating state funded institutions of higher education, for a $20.00 nonrefundable registration fee per semester and $5.00 per credit hour charge.
