Duties and Responsibilities: Perform technical plan review work, including the evaluation, interpretation, investigation, and enforcement of construction and development codes, laws, and ordinances. Review and approve building plans, specifications, and engineering calculations for code compliance. Approve building permit applications and calculate applicable permit fees. Meet with property owners, developers, contractors, engineers, and architects to interpret codes and resolve conflicts. Maintain accurate records of permits, plan reviews, inspections, and other related documentation. Assist in enforcing ordinances related to land use, floodplain management, building sites, and building uses. Update and maintain the City's permit management system to track permit activity and files. Conduct on-site building and site inspections to ensure compliance with City codes and regulations. Follow all City policies, procedures, and safety protocols. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 1 year of experience in construction trades, inspection, or building design (or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge). Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally. Valid Idaho driver's license and proof of insurance. Certification as an ICC Building Plans Examiner (required within 6 months of hire). Ability to learn and apply the International Residential Code, International Building Code, and related ordinances. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interpret and analyze construction plans, blueprints, and specifications. Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Frequent sitting and standing. Occasional climbing and lifting (up to 20 lbs.). Ability to perform fieldwork in various weather conditions, including construction sites. Must be able to see, hear, and speak clearly for effective communication. Must pass a background check and drug screen.
