Our Eldercare team is seeking an Underwriting Specialist to join their growing team on the West Coast. Ideal locations would be AZ, WA, CO, ID, UT, OR, NV, NM, or CA. This is a full time, exempt position. This is a remote opportunity.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Underwriting Specialist will be responsible for identifying, soliciting, underwriting and selling new and renewal Eldercare Specialty accounts that drive profitable growth and align with industry segment and line-of-business goals. This role requires technical, sales and analytical skills to deliver insurance solutions that help Hanover's customers manage risk in the Senior Living Healthcare space.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of Hanover's strategies and appetites, using internal and external data to make informed risk decisions. Operating with limited supervision, the Underwriting Specialist will manage a book of business with moderate to high technical complexity.
A strong understanding of Eldercare products is essential. The Underwriting Specialist is expected to underwrite to and sell unique features of these products. They will work closely with healthcare leadership and field colleagues to execute strategic business plans.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
Technical Underwriting:
- Apply underwriting concepts including risk selection, exposure and hazard identification, coverage implications, and loss analysis.
- Use appropriate underwriting tools and strategies to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.
- Ask key questions to fully understand operations and exposures when presented with limited information on a risk.
- Document underwriting decisions clearly and thoroughly including required documentation according to guidelines.
Portfolio Management & Financial Acumen:
- Manage assigned portfolio to meet premium, profitability, rate, retention, product mix, growth goals.
- Interpret financial reports and insurance performance metrics to manage risk.
- Understand market factors affecting pricing and their impact on individual, regional and countrywide books of business
- Analyze underwriting decisions and market data to drive results within the assigned territory
Sales Management:
- Identify, solicit, pipeline, negotiate, and close accounts aligned with business strategy.
- Strategically market Hanover's capabilities to agents and profile agency portfolios.
- Stay informed on state/territory regulations and trends.
- Use market and competitor insights to enhance relationships and decision-making.
- Build trust and secure commitment through effective relationship management.
- Identify cross-sell opportunities across lines of business and customer segments.
- Demonstrate deep product knowledge and clearly communicate Hanover's value proposition.
- Maintain rigorous sales practices using systems, tools, and best practices
- Collaborate with Specialty partners to support the sales process.
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY: - Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of Eldercare/Specialty Healthcare experience.
- Experience managing agency relationships and underwriting complex accounts.
- Strong adaptability, problem-solving, and openness to new ideas.
- Effective communication across all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
- Sound judgment and confident decision-making within authority limits.
- Agile mindset with ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Collaborative team player who values diverse perspectives.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to monitor progress and deliver results.
