POSITION SUMMARY:
The City of Nampa Facilities Department is looking for a motivated professional with proven leadership, exceptional interpersonal, collaboration, and communication skills, who is analytical and data-driven and can work independently and multitask. The Facilities Maintenance Technician I will perform standard maintenance and mechanical duties, maintain a clean, operational, attractive, and safe environment for the City building, and perform other duties as required or assigned.
The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform standard maintenance and mechanical duties. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this class are performed in an indoor and outdoor environment in a variety of terrains and weather conditions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Maintains buildings and grounds by painting repairing fixtures and equipment.
• Assists with maintaining and repairing electrical, plumbing, janitorial, and mechanical equipment, including testing for electrical equipment failure and performing recurring maintenance.
• Performs a wide array of general building maintenance and repair activities, including cleaning, ground maintenance, painting, wall patching, flooring repairs, and office relocations.
• Assists with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing projects.
• Performs preventative maintenance activities on plumbing, electrical fixtures, doors, fountains, safety equipment, and mechanical equipment.
• Utilizes hand and power tools such as saws, drills, and wrenches.
• Assists with installation, modification, construction, maintenance, or repair actions in response to inspections or work orders.
• Operates and maintains a variety of equipment, including trucks, hand tools, power tools, electronic test meters, janitorial equipment, and other trade-specific equipment.
• Assumes responsibility for other duties as required or assigned and attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas.
• Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.

• Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
• High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required.
• Two plus years of experience in Facilities Maintenance and/or any combination of experience and training that provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
• Must be able to pass an extensive background check, a pre-employment drug test, fingerprinting, and a polygraph test.
• Valid State of Idaho Driver's License.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
• Some knowledge of basic facility maintenance techniques, materials, safety practices, and equipment related to the work, including hand and power tools and equipment used in maintenance work.
• Some knowledge of commercial electrical, plumbing, pumps, and HAVAC.
• Some knowledge of the safe and proper use of basic hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in construction, maintenance, and repair work.
• Some knowledge of facilities maintenance and troubleshooting and working within a service-based work order system.
• Ability to safely use hand tools.
• Ability to efficiently operate related City vehicles, construction and maintenance tools and equipment, including trucks, pumps, filters, saws, and other related equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time with exposure to varying weather conditions and day or night schedules as required.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of mechanical and labor-intensive duties including the ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time and strengthen to lift and maneuver materials and equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions, read maps and blueprints, and perform shop mathematics.
• Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports containing findings and recommendations.
• Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions.
• Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
• Ability to show integrity, ingenuity, and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks.
• Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks and the ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.
