Summer Grounds

Performs general maintenance on grounds and grounds care equipment. Assists in general school district maintenance tasks as well. Completes work orders as assigned by the supervisor or designee.

Location: Multiple

Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor

Calendar: Summer (4 months and 28 days - May - Nov preferred)

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current driver's license
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish the major duties listed below

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain grounds around facilities so as to look groomed and attractive.
  2. Manage the loading and unloading of furniture from the previous location to its new designated destination.
  3. Pad, stack, and secure items in position on the truck to prevent damage during shipment.
  4. Cleaning up the areas and assuring that everything has been delivered in the exact location.
  5. Use caution while working when students are using playing/practice fields.
  6. Perform work safely by not endangering self or others, i.e. leather shoes, eye protection, ear protection/plugs.
  7. Maintain playing/practice fields for activities as required.
  8. Assist other grounds maintenance personnel as requested.
  9. Be neat and clean in personal appearance and work habits.
  10. Know and follow district procedures for the use of district vehicles and equipment.
  11. Deal with students, parents, staff, ditch riders, and others in a positive, encouraging manner.
  12. Know and follow district policy and chain of command.
  13. Act ethically and confidentially in all aspects of employment.
  14. Perform duties as assigned by the supervisor or foreman.

Physical Abilities:

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions, telephones, and safety warnings;
  • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions, discern dirt or marks on surfaces and move in unfamiliar buildings;
  • Sufficient dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate cleaning and groundskeeping devices including power equipment, hand equipment, and do adjustments;
  • Sufficient strength to lift objects up to 50 pounds, maneuver power cleaning equipment, carry objects up to 50 pounds, stand for up to four hours, and move between workstations and job tasks on a shift;
  • Sufficient body flexibility and balance to perform cleaning and maintenance operations which require repeated bending and stooping motions, including climbing and working on ladders;
  • Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, stamina, and balance, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work in areas with only artificial light, to work within a tightly enclosed area such as closets and small offices, to work while exposed to unpleasant odors and with allergenic substances such as cleaning solutions and dust, and to work in a custodial environment;
  • Sufficient attention to concentrate on tasks and to return to and complete tasks when distracted.
